ITINERARY:
DAY 1: DUNEDIN TO CATLINS
After sightseeing in Dunedin we make ourselves on the way to the Catlins region. Our first point of call is Nugget Point, a dramatic Rock Formation. Close by is 'Cannibal Bay', a good place to see Sea lions or penguins in it's natural environment. We visit some stunning waterfalls before arriving at Porpoise Bay where we stay overnight.
Overnight: Porpoise Bay
DAY 2: PORPOISE BAY TO INVERCARGILL
Porpoise Bay is the home of the rare 'Hector' dolphins. With a bit of luck you may be able to swim with them. Close by are the ancient Fossil Rock Formations at Curio Bay and then there are also some big cliff faces to allow for great photo opportunities. Then there is also the Waipawa lighthouse, the southernmost point of this country - another great place to see wildlife.
Leaving the Catlins region we arrive in Invercargill where we stay overnight.
Overnight: Invercargill
DAY 3: INVERCARGILL TO MILFORD SOUND
The 'Southland museum gives us a good insight into the life of Sub Antarctica.
We follow the Coastline further west to some great Surf Beaches and take the scenic road into Fjordland National Park. Lots of stops on the way allow us to get a close view of the largest lake in the South Island, waterfalls, glaciers and we also go for a walk to a remote 'Three wire swing bridge'. We reach Milford Sound in the late afternoon and stay overnight in this remote place.
Overnight: Milford Sound
DAY 4: GLACIERS TO QUEENSTOWN
You have the opportunity to take the early cruise in Milford Sound. Certainly the best time of the day to take photos. After returning to land we drive towards Queenstown, where we arrive in mid afternoon.
Then it is time to explore the town and the surroundings of our 'Adventure Capital'
Overnight: Queenstown
DAY 5: QUEENSTOWN TIME OUT
In the morning we make our way to the Bungy bridge, time for a jump if you like to do it!Then we allow time for a lunch break in the old Gold mining city ‘Arrowtown’.
In the afternoon you may want to try to go luging. This fun activity can be reach via a gondola which also allows for great views.
You also have the options to enjoy some of the Adventure Activities in Queenstown or get to know some remote parts of the country, such as ‘Skipper’s Canyon or go Fun yaking in the Paradise valley; a very well known area thanks to the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the 'Milka cow commercials'.
Overnight: Queenstown
DAY 6: END OF TOUR IN CHRISTCHURCH
Passing the mountain ranges of the Southern Alps with many lakes on the way we make our way back to Christchurch. We arrive at around lunchtime in the biggest city of the South Island.
From here you can make your way back to your destination by plane, bus or train.
