ITINERARY:
1st day:AUCKLAND - WAITANGI HOT POOLS
Pick up after school and leave Auckland. We drive through the Farming area of Waikato until we reach Rotorua. In close proximity we reach some ‘Wild Hot Pools’ in the middle of nowhere where we stay, eat and bath overnight.
Overnight: Waitangi Hot Pools
2nd day: WAITANGI HOT POOLS - TE ARAROA - EAST CAPE
On the way to the East Cape we stop at the historic Church at Torere and Raukokore, various lookouts and some beautiful beaches. We enjoy our afternoon Tea in Te Araroa, the remote settlement close to the Cape. The largest Pohutukawa can be found here as well. Over an unsealed road we reach a remote beach close to the lighthouse at the East Cape.
Overnight: East Cape at the beach
3rd day: EAST CAPE - TOLAGA BAY AREA
After a bit of time at the beach we make our way to the parking area close to the lighthouse. A 20 minute walk will bring us to the lighthouse from where we enjoy fantastic views towards the easternmost island of this country.
Following the southern road, we encounter more beautiful beaches, rivers, and forests.
Tolaga Bay has a long wharf to allow for some special photos and to do some fishing.
Overnight: Tolaga bay area
4th day:TOLAGA BAY AREA - GISBORNE - AUCKLAND
After an early morning swim and maybe a bit more fishing we make our way to Whangara, the place where ‘Whalerider’ was filmed. A stunning location! Close to Gisborne there are heaps of beautiful Surf beaches. We follow a stunning gorge to reach the northern part of the East Cape, from here we make our way back to Auckland. We are back in town in the early evening.
